Know when the agency is not the first call
Collapse, breathing difficulty, severe chest pain, uncontrolled bleeding and other urgent conditions belong with emergency services. Give the dispatcher the exact location, what happened, whether the person is conscious and breathing, and a callback number.
Bring the useful information
SMMC asks patients to present valid identification and insurance information or another form of payment. Carry allergies, current medication, relevant medical history and the insurer's assistance number.
Bring regular medicines in their original labelled containers, together with any prescription or clinical letter. SMMC specifically asks patients to disclose prescribed, over-the-counter, herbal and other medicines so the clinical record is accurate.
Keep medical details private and share them only with those involved in the care or coordination.
Do not assume a pharmacy has the item
Opening hours, duty arrangements, prescription acceptance and stock change. The Pharmacy Association page provides public-pharmacy contacts and links to current opening information.
A medicine appearing in an online formulary does not guarantee that it is in stock.
